Academics

At Riverside Leadership Academy (RLA), we provide a rigorous, research-based academic program designed to support the whole child. Instruction across all grade levels aligns with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCoS) and is grounded in best practices, including the Science of Reading, Project-Based Learning (PBL), and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).
 

Our academic model balances strong foundational skills with real-world application, helping students grow as confident learners, thinkers, and leaders. Project-Based Learning is central to instruction at RLA. Through extended, standards-aligned projects, students explore meaningful questions, collaborate with peers, apply academic skills, and share their learning through authentic presentations. PBL encourages deeper understanding, creativity, and student ownership of learning.
 

RLA also integrates Social-Emotional Learning into daily instruction using Responsive Classroom practices. This approach focuses on building strong relationships, positive school culture, and essential life skills such as responsibility, empathy, self-regulation, and collaboration, supporting both academic success and student well-being.
