TRANSPORTATION

Riverside Leadership Academy is committed to ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient transportation process for all scholars. Please review the information below carefully, as it includes important updates and expectations for bus riders and carpool families.

Bus Transportation

General Bus Information

  • Drivers are required to depart promptly at their scheduled times and cannot wait, as delays affect other stops.

  • Families should arrive at least 5 minutes early for both morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off.

  • Traffic delays may occur. Any delay longer than 15 minutes will be communicated to families.

In the afternoon, please arrive early for drop-off. Scholars without an adult present at the scheduled time will be returned to the school for pickup.

Bus Routes & Stops

To help scholars and staff, bus routes will be referred to consistently as Routes A, B, and C.

Route A

  • Outback

  • AMC Havelock

  • Wells Wayside

Route B

  • A&E Stop & Shop

  • MLK Blvd.

Route C

Using route names (A, B, and C) helps reduce confusion during dismissal and supports a smoother process for scholars.

Bus Pick-Up Expectations

  • Parents or guardians must have an RLA bus placard when picking up a scholar.

  • Adults must exit the vehicle and approach the bus to present the placard.

  • This procedure ensures scholars are released only to their assigned adult.

  • If another adult is picking up your child, they must have:

    • Their own placard or

    • In an emergency, a text message from the parent with a photo of the placard.

Bus Safety Reminders

To keep all scholars safe, please review these important expectations with your child:

  1. Families should wait for the bus inside their car or safely off to the side, away from moving vehicles.

  2. Scholars must remain seated and facing forward while the bus is in motion.

  3. Scholars may talk quietly, but voices should remain at a level that does not distract the driver, especially at railroad crossings.

  4. No eating on the bus. Scholars may bring water only. Snacks and other drinks can create messes and attract insects.

Carpool Procedures

Morning Carpool (Important Update)

  • Morning carpool begins at 7:00 AM.

  • Scholars dropped off before 7:20 AM will report to Room 128.

  • At 7:20 AM, scholars will transition to their classrooms.

  • Before-school care is still available beginning at 6:20 AM for a fee. Families using this service should continue to bring scholars inside as usual.

Afternoon Carpool

  • Carpool line-up begins at 2:30 PM.

  • Parents may not arrive before 2:30 PM. Families arriving early will be asked to leave and return at the appropriate time.

  • Dismissal order:

    • Buses

    • Daycare vans

    • Carpool

  • Carpool will officially begin at 3:10 PM to ensure a faster, smoother dismissal.

  • Buckle Zone: Families who need to buckle their child must pull into the parking spaces on the right.

  • Please do not exit your vehicle in the carpool line.

  • Cars should pull forward to the cones on the left for scholar pick-up, then exit slowly and safely to the right.

Transportation Changes

If your child’s transportation will change for the day, families must submit a written note (paper or email). Without written notification, scholars will be sent home using their regular transportation method.

The note must include:

  • Student’s full name

  • Student’s grade and teacher

  • Date of the transportation change

  • Mode of transportation for that day

Please note: Students may not switch to bus transportation, as seating is limited. For changes made after 1:00 PM, families must follow up with a phone call to the front office to ensure the message has been received.

Carpool World: We encourage families to utilize Carpool World as an alternative option for transportation to school: https://www.carpoolworld.com/carpooling.html?c=rla_carpool
