Student and Family Service Hours at Riverside Leadership Academy
At Riverside Leadership Academy, service to others and to our community is a core part of who we are. We believe that developing confident, community-focused, future-ready leaders starts with giving students meaningful opportunities to serve and connect with the world around them.
Student Service Hours
All RLA scholars are required to complete service hours as part of their educational experience. These hours help students build empathy, responsibility, and strong community relationships.
The minimum service hour requirements by grade band are:
-
Kindergarten–2nd Grade: 5 hours
-
3rd–5th Grade: 7 hours
-
6th–12th Grade: 10 hours
Many of these hours will be earned naturally through our Project-Based Learning (PBL) experiences, where scholars work on projects that address real community needs. In our first year of operation, all student service hours will be completed through school-led activities.
Students must meet their service hour requirement in order to be promoted to the next grade level.
Family Volunteer Hours
RLA also values strong partnerships with families. As outlined in our charter, each family is expected to complete volunteer hours in support of their child’s educational experience. Parents/guardians are required to complete 10 service hours per year. This is 10 hours per family, regardless of the number of scholars attending RLA.
Family volunteer hours may include:
-
Volunteering in the classroom
-
Assisting with school events or activities
-
Participating in parent organizations
-
Attending school meetings or workshops
-
Supporting school performances or special events
We truly believe children thrive when they have a village behind them, and we are committed to engaging families as active partners in education.
Volunteering During the School DaY
At Riverside Leadership Academy, we believe our greatest success comes from strong partnerships with families and community members. Parents and caregivers are welcome in our school as visitors or volunteers, as long as they follow the School Volunteer Policy.
We know that positive relationships between families and schools play an important role in student engagement and growth. These relationships are built through open communication, active family involvement, and a shared commitment to RLA’s vision and mission.
